Frequently asked questions
How many people can the boat fit?
We can take up to six guests aboard Sunset. If your group is larger than 6, visit our sister ship, the Ventura, at www.sailnewyork.com to book your charter.
What if our group is less than six?
We regularly take out groups of fewer than six. Sunset is a perfectly sized boat for a couple to enjoy a special occasion. Since all of our charters are private, you are guaranteed to have the whole boat to yourself when you book with us.
Can we bring our own food and drinks?
Yes, you may! We also have plates, cups, utensils, and serving supplies for you to use.
What else should we bring?
Bring a bag of ice or a small cooler to keep things cold. Bottled water, sunscreen on hot sunny days, and jackets or layers on cooler days are all recommended while you’re out sailing with us.
Where do you typically sail?
Our typical route is to depart from our home base at Pier 25 Marina in Tribeca, cruise South around Lower Manhattan and into the bay to escape the NYC boat traffic and catch the best winds. We sail close by the Statue of Liberty, all while taking in great views of the city skyline.
Are children allowed on the boat?
Yes, they are. If they are under the age of 12, they will need to wear a life jacket, which will need to be provided by the guest.
Is there a bathroom on the boat?
Yes, we have a bathroom on the boat located in the cabin.
What happens in the case of bad weather?
At Tribeca Sailing, we understand that no one wishes to sail in dangerous weather. The captain of the vessel has sole discretion to cancel a charter due to inclement weather. Examples of inclement weather include thunderstorms, lightning, excessive or dangerous winds, and sustained heavy rain. Most of our guests have a wonderful time even when conditions are not perfect. Your charter will proceed in light rain, cloudy skies, warm or cold temperatures, humidity, and small craft advisories. Sailing in imperfect weather is part of the experience. We track and monitor conditions hourly and will make every effort to contact you approximately two hours before your scheduled start time if inclement weather is expected to affect your charter. Conditions can change suddenly and may result in last-minute cancellations. Please plan on arriving on time for your scheduled sail, even if the forecast calls for rain. Weather forecasts are frequently inaccurate, and we ask for your patience with them. Charters will not be rescheduled based on weather forecasts of any kind. If the captain cancels your charter for actual inclement weather, you will be offered a one-time rescheduled sail or a charter credit valid through the end of the current season.
